Always verify on the official posting. Agencies change dates, issue addenda and cancel solicitations. BidLasso compiles public information and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any agency.

Trade work shows up in public bids less often than street work, and much of it comes as annual or on-call contracts (for example, citywide plumbing or HVAC repair for a year or more) rather than one-off jobs. One win can mean steady work orders. Because these postings are few, they are easy to miss. Check often, or get them by email.

Agencies also hide trade work inside bigger general construction bids. If you work as a sub, watch the construction bids list for general contractors you can price to.

Questions

What does an on-call or annual contract mean?

The agency picks one or more contractors for a set term (often one year with renewals) and calls them for work as needed. The bid usually asks for hourly labor rates and markup on parts, not a single job price. Read the bid form in each solicitation.

Do I need a state license to bid public HVAC, plumbing or electrical work?

Yes. Public work needs the same state license as private work (for example, TDLR licenses air conditioning and electrical contractors). Solicitations often ask for license numbers and proof of insurance with the bid.

Where does the City of San Antonio post trade service contracts?

On its Bid & Contract Opportunities page. The City says services such as electrical, plumbing and HVAC are answered through SAePS. See the SAePS registration guide.
